Subject: [geodesy] Letter in support of NGGM and MAGIC gravity missions
Hello everyone,
ESA, in collaboration with NASA and DLR, is preparing for the next space gravimetry mission named MAGIC. The MAGIC mission will involve 2 pairs of satellites: GRACE-C funded by DLR and NASA, and, NGGM funded by ESA. The MAGIC mission will enable monitoring of the gravity field with unprecedented resolution, opening up new frontiers in hydrology, oceanography, glaciology, climate sciences, geophysics, and, geodesy.
To support the mission, the NGGM mission advisory group (MAG) has drafted a letter on behalf of the scientific community: https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/HkflCnxyDVHG7nEPzc9S3Nk?domain=docs.…
We need as many signatures as possible from scientists worldwide to demonstrate the significance of the NGGM mission to European decision-makers. If you support this initiative, please sign the letter by adding your contact details to the table at the end of the letter.
We also encourage you to share this letter with your scientific colleagues interested in gravimetry.
Thank you for your support.
Dr Julia Pfeffer

Hello fellow Australian Geodesy colleagues,
We are seeking interested applicants to be the next Director of National Geodesy at Geoscience Australia. This is an awesome role, working with amazing people. We are looking for someone dedicated to strengthening Geodesy in Australia with opportunities to guide and influence the recognition of importance of geodesy across government, industry and academia.
As Director of the National Geodesy Section, you will lead a dynamic, collaborative team of experts to develop, operate and maintain high quality geodetic products and infrastructure. You will actively collaborate with the international geodetic community, state and territory governments, industry, academia, and internal stakeholders to ensure that products and services are relevant and meet expected standards. You will work closely with other Directors across the Positioning Australia Branch and Geoscience Australia more broadly to ensure quality and integration across new and existing products and services, and to maximise Positioning Australia's relevance to its stakeholder base.
Among the many exciting geodesy activities currently underway, the Geodesy Director is responsible for:
- Strengthening, maintaining and improving access to the Australian Geospatial Reference System
- Coordination of physical geodesy datasets such as the recent airborne gravity surveys and their digestion into geoid products
- Managing foundational infrastructure and operations at the Yarragadee and Mt Stromlo Geodetic Observatories
- + local tie surveys, VLBI, SLR, gravity, national adjustments, plate rotation models, InSAR, geoids, datums, DORIS, AusHydroid, standards and metadata...
