Subject: [geodesy] Letter in support of NGGM and MAGIC gravity missions
Hello everyone,
ESA, in collaboration with NASA and DLR, is preparing for the next space gravimetry mission named MAGIC. The MAGIC mission will involve 2 pairs of satellites: GRACE-C funded by DLR and NASA, and, NGGM funded by ESA. The MAGIC mission will enable monitoring of the gravity field with unprecedented resolution, opening up new frontiers in hydrology, oceanography, glaciology, climate sciences, geophysics, and, geodesy.
To support the mission, the NGGM mission advisory group (MAG) has drafted a letter on behalf of the scientific community: https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/HkflCnxyDVHG7nEPzc9S3Nk?domain=docs.…
We need as many signatures as possible from scientists worldwide to demonstrate the significance of the NGGM mission to European decision-makers. If you support this initiative, please sign the letter by adding your contact details to the table at the end of the letter.
We also encourage you to share this letter with your scientific colleagues interested in gravimetry.
Thank you for your support.

Hello Australian Geodesy Community,
On behalf of the Global Geodetic Observing Committee, I am thrilled to announce two events for later in the year:
(1) the 🌍 GGOS - Global Geodetic Observing System Topical Meeting on the Atmosphere; and
(2) the 🌍 GGOS Days.
To be held as consecutive events in Potsdam Germany, 7-11 October 2024.
Details are below and on the website/s.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each year, the GGOS Executive Committee organises the GGOS Days to update the International Association of Geodesy and GGOS communities on recent achievements and current challenges faced by the various colleagues involved in achieving the goals of the GGOS Strategic Plan. Dear Phil,
Thanks for reaching out in the first instance, I appreciate the initial heads up and loop in before being contacted by the academic in Albania.
Yes – please provide my email as an initial first point of contact, and also include the geodesy@ga email (cc’d) so that my colleagues have visibility of the request.
Are you able to send through a copy of the correspondence you had with GA at the time when you handed over the GDAGrid source code? I have not been able to find a copy of this and would like to create a catalogue in our records management tool for the future, should this come up again. I am guessing this may have been either with John Dawson or Nick Brown?
Thanks and Regards,
Anna

Hi Anna,
When the GDA2020 distortion grids were being computed I agreed to provide GA with exclusive rights to the GDAGrid source code. In recent weeks I have been approached by an academic in Albania requesting access to the software. Given it is now not mine to give away, I would like to put him in touch with you to negotiate the necessary arrangements. I just wanted to put you in the loop first and to check if you are ok with me giving him your email address?
Kind regards.
Phil.
